Congratulations to our second Student of the Month for April, Project Lead the Way/Engineering and Computer Technology senior Jackson Rice! Jackson is a home-schooled student from the Bolivar area. He volunteers at the Bolivar Library and enjoys music production, gaming, electronics, and coding. At BCC, Jackson is a double lab student and is a member of Business Professionals of America. He will compete at BPA nationals this year after success at regionals and state. Jackson’s PLTW instructor, Mr. Tim Vandeborne, nominated him for the honor. “Jackson exemplifies what it means to be passionate about learning and personal growth. He consistently goes above and beyond,” said Vandeborne. His Computer Technology instructor, Mr. Bill Alexander, agrees. “Jackson is focused on his future and is a great student who deserves this recognition,” commented Alexander. Upon graduation, Jackson plans to attend Kent State University at Tuscarawas to major in engineering. He is the son of Jeff and Linda Rice. He will be honored at this evening's Board of Education meeting! #BuckeyeProud!

Congratulations to our April Student of the Month, Introduction to Nursing senior Alli Reynolds! Alli attends BCC from Carrollton, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Hall of Fame, dance line, and track and field. At BCC, Alli is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, Drug Free Clubs of America, and HOSA Future Health Professionals. In HOSA, just last week, Alli placed second at state in the patient care technician competition and will compete at the international competition this summer. She is employed by Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ. Her Intro to Nursing instructor, Mr. Lucas Grove, nominated her for the honor. “Alli is highly focused, consistently producing outstanding academic work while actively seeking opportunities to improve,” said Grove. Following graduation, Alli plans to attend the University of Mount Union to obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing with plans of becoming a registered nurse anesthetist. She is the daughter of James and Sara Reynolds. Alli will be honored at this evening's Board of Education meeting!

Congratulations to five of our medical students who competed at state last week and have qualified for the International HOSA State Leadership Conference to be held in June!

Aubrie Fawcett (Intro to Nursing/Indian Valley) earned first place and qualified for the international competition in Clinical Nursing. Fawcett is now a two-time international qualifier. Joining her is classmate Alli Reynolds (Intro to Nursing/Carrollton), who earned second place in Patient Care Technician. Gretchen Stein (Intro to Nursing/Indian Valley) earned third place in Nursing Assisting. Lainey Hershberger (Exercise Science/Garaway) earned third place in Speaking Skills, and Zoe Jump (Exercise Science/Garaway) earned seventh place in Healthcare Issues Exam. #BuckeyeProud!

The team of Serenitee Portillo (Indian Valley) and Shelbie Huffman (Dover) earned silver in Interpersonal Communication, while Maggie Smith (Newcomerstown) earned first place and silver in Lesson Plan Development. All three are Teaching Professions students.

Additionally, Maya Fierbaugh (Strasburg), a Culinary Arts student, earned bronze in Baking and Pastry.
