New Philadelphia, OH (April 10, 2025) – A select group of Buckeye Career Center students is being recognized for receiving the Buckeye Career Center Foundation scholarship. The 23 seniors will be honored at the annual Buckeye Foundation Awards Ceremony on May 7, 2025, at Buckeye Career Center. This year’s winners represent 16 BCC labs and 10 schools.
The scholarships are unique as the money can be used for more than just higher education. “We are one of a very few scholarships that can be used for tools of their trade or adult vocational education,” explained Kimberly Hobart Fleming, Buckeye Foundation President and Recognition Awards Ceremony event chair. The scholarships are made possible by community contributions. Each of the 23 students will be awarded a scholarship of $2,500.
The 2025 scholarship recipients are Benjamin Stoneman (Ag. & Diesel Technology/Carrollton), Logan Henry (Business & Marketing/Conotton Valley), Jacqueline Lopez (Business & Marketing/Dover), Lora Shaw (Business & Marketing/Indian Valley), Wayo Calel-Lopez (Construction Technology/Dover), Cambrielle Baker (Cosmetology/Claymont), Ellie Johnson (Cosmetology and Business & Marketing/Garaway), Layla Troyer (Cosmetology and Business & Marketing/Hiland), Ava Conrad (Cosmetology and Business & Marketing/Indian Valley), Mylie Galigher (Exercise Science/Conotton Valley), Braden Gibb (Exercise Science/Dover), Ariel Romeo (Floral Design/Carrollton), Andria Lab (Graphic Arts and Floral Design/Tusky Valley), Alexa Schuler (Intro to Nursing/Indian Valley), Alyson Perry (Intro to Nursing/Tusky Valley), Savannah Powell (Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS/ Strasburg), Mallory Walton (Pharmacy Technician/Indian Valley), Hayden Fernandez (Project Lead the Way/Strasburg), Eric Golder (Utility Lineworker/Indian Valley), Sarah Myers (Utility Lineworker/Indian Valley), Dawson Shivers (Utility Lineworker and Electrical Systems/Indian Valley), Joshua Rhiel (Utility Lineworker and Electrical Systems/Carrollton), and Lane Zickel (Welding and Commercial Truck/Newcomerstown).
Park Village Health Care Center will be recognized as the Spotlight Award winner for the company’s continued support of Buckeye Career Center and its students. Park Village staff members provide passionate care for the Tuscarawas community while also assisting in the training of BCC students entering the healthcare field. The company currently employs over 80 current or graduated BCC students.
Darren Galbraith, the founder of North Star Metals and Designer Stone, is this year’s Alumnus of the Year. Galbraith graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1990 and completed Buckeye’s Industrial Electricity program. He continues to support BCC by hiring graduates and by contributing to the construction of the student-built homes at BCC.
The Buckeye Foundation Awards Ceremony is free to attend and open to the public, but reservations are required.
